Environment Act: Natural Pest Control for Your Garden

A garden without bugs is not a healthy garden

Most pesticides are not selective. They wipe out all insects, good and bad. Using natural means of controlling insect populations, such as enlisting the aid of pest predators and certain plants, will adequately protect your garden from pests. Plus, you will have the satisfaction of working in harmony with your environment and providing your family with a chemical-free harvest.

This site is so cool... I wanted to quote the whole thing!

However... the process here is trying to find information... we are trying this in our garden. I'm going to do much more... if it ever stops raining. AND I'll report it here.

Want bullet-proof garbage cans?

This is the place you need...

Attractive Addition to any Landscape. Trash Receptacle Holders protect trash cans, liners and barrels from abuse and vandalism and, also, effectively disguise them to present a more attractive appearance. The containers inside are also supported off the ground to keep them dry and prevent the bottoms from rusting out

That, and much much more. I use garbage cans for outdoor storage of birdseed.

OSPCA - Wildlife-Proofing Your Property

The Ontario SPCA strongly encourages property owners to "wildlife-proof" buildings and property so that wildlife do notbecome a "nuisance". Invasion of wildlife into residences can cause damage to property, as well as harm to the animals.

Generally, the fall is a good time to make building repairs, to prohibit wildlife from gaining access. Also, wildlife that entered your home in the spring to have young, will often leave willingly in the fall.

At least they put nuisance in quotes.

I've found one place where some critter is gnawing away at something. Five years & he still isn't through. I suppose it's tooth sharpening, perhaps a rabbit.

What is Square Foot Gardening?

Looking down long rows of growing vegetables may seem the right way to ÒfarmÓ but this traditional method whendone as a hobby or avocation to provide fresh produce for the dinner table is, in the long run, a definite hardship for usually the one or two persons in a family who will have to maintain it, after already having worked hard to prepare the planting beds!

They're doing gardens in 4 x 4 squares divided into 1 sq ft sections.

There's a book by the same title. Very interesting, to me.

Heirloom, Open Pollinated, Non-hybrid Corn Seed from Victory Seed Company

In Native American lore, corn was one of the "three sisters". Along with beans and squash, the three sisters were planted and grown together, supporting each other in their lifecycle and providing a very balanced diet of carbohydrates, proteins and vegetable fats to their cultivators.

Ahhh... Today it's FOOD. Lunchtime & I'm surrounding myself with it.

I love planting corn in flower pots... I like the shorter varieties... I've seen it described as "Mexican", but I bet that really means Incan, Aztec, or Mayan.

We have the neatest baby blue-eyes growing uninvited in our yard! Now the have little seed-balls where the pretty flowers were. I understand when this falls off, you won't be able to tell it from "real" grass.

So I'm wondering how to collect the seed, & did a search on them, & got some interesting results.
